Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins is my new favorite novel. It’s a companion book to Anna and the French Kiss (which means that the two main characters in Anna and the French Kiss are minor characters in Lola and the Boy Next door).
Some chick lit out there is unoriginal. This is not true for Lola and the Boy Next Door, despite the corny title. Reading this book was like eating ice cream (as in delicious and impossible to stop consuming).
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who likes the fun romantic settings of Maureen Johnson’s books and the comedy of Meg Cabot’s series. Anna and the French Kiss is also fantastic, and if you enjoy those Stephanie Perkins is coming out with a new novel, Isla and the Happily Ever After in 2013.
