After entering a demanding high school Craig Gilner falls into the world of depression.This is caused by the high standards he and others have set for himself. Go to a good high school, get into a good college, get a good job, and be successful. After trying to commit suicide he accidentally admits himself into a mental hospital.

After being admitted into Argenon Hospital he meets many different and interesting people. He meets a cross dresser who finds enjoyment in messing with the new incoming patients, an Egyptian roommate who refuses to leave the room, and the beautiful and scarred Noelle. She brings him into the world of mental people and helps him get attached to the people in the hospital.

Ned Vizzini brings us into the mind of someone faced with depression. This story helps us understand the struggles that those faced with depression face and the way to overcome it. It's greatly written, funny, and heart warming. Anyone who has ever faced depression or know someone who has faced it should read this book.
