Mistwood is one of those books that my hands couldn't seem to let go of. Battling enemies of the kingdom, learning one's destiny, and dicovering a past no one knows about is enough to keep anyone's attention. I was constantly trying to figure out who was the true prince and who was the imposter. It was what kept me awake at night.
Isabel is a girl with very little memory of who she is who is found in the woods one day by Prince Rokan. Rokan seems to believe Isabel is "the Shifter", an immortal creature that is able to change shape at will. According to legend, the Shifter is bound by magic to protect all kings of Samorna. Rokan belives his life is in danger so he seeks the Shifter (Isabel), even though she could very well be his downfall. Isabel becomes close to the high sorcerer's apprentice and he helps her gain her memory. When he tells her why she fled the kingdon 10 years ago, she discovers Prince Rokan has been lying to her.
Isabel runs away, back to the Mistwood, where she is always welcome. After 3 days, Rokan goes looking for her. Isabel watches him search and she sees a dark man hidden in the trees trying to kill Rokan. She saves Rokan, as is her duty, but she lets the would-be assassin go free after he tries to explain that he is the true prince. He tries to tell her that she should be protecting him. Isabel keeps protecting Rokan but she is confused because she can't change shape and she feels like she's not really the Shifter. When Isabel discovers her forgotten past, she must choose between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. Read the book to find out what Isabel chooses.
